The Valentine’s Week Expectations vs. Reality

Valentine’s Week is here! Love is in the air! It is that time of year when romance takes center stage, and expectations soar to the moon. But let’s be real; sometimes reality has a way of surprising us. Here’s a funny take on what to expect (and what not to expect) during this love-filled week.

Valentine’s Week’s Day 1 – 7th February “Rose Day”

Expectation:

Your partner showers you with a bouquet of red roses, each bloom representing their undying love. You imagine waking up to a room filled with the fragrance of fresh roses, each bloom representing your partner’s undying love. You envision a romantic gesture where your partner surprises you with a beautiful bouquet of red roses, symbolizing passion and romance.

Reality:

You receive a single rose hastily picked up from the gas station or from the grocery station on the way home or your partner totally forgets about the day but we all know it’s the thought that counts, right? And the love they have for you.

Valentine’s Week’s Day 2 – 8th February “Propose Day”

Expectation:

You’re expecting a grand proposal from your partner with a ring hidden in a champagne glass or some dreamy, creative setting that will make your heart skip a beat. You also expect this moment as one of the most memorable and romantic in your relationship. Alternatively, you expect a romantic candlelit dinner at a fancy restaurant, with delicious food and attentive service.

Reality:

Your partner proposes a Netflix marathon and a takeout dinner or just tells you to be with him. And for the candlelight dinner, you opt for a cozy dinner at home because all the good restaurants are fully booked, and you enjoy a simple meal together while watching your favorite movie which is, to be honest also romantic right?

Valentine’s Week’s Day 3 – 9th February “Chocolate Day”

Valentine’s Week-9th February “Chocolate Day”

Expectation:

A box of gourmet chocolates arrives at your doorstep, each piece a decadent delight. Like Forrest Gum movie’s chocolate box, you never know what surprise waits for you.

Reality:

You end up buying a discounted box of chocolates for yourself because self-love is important too, right? While you may not have received chocolates from your partner, you recognize the importance of loving and pampering yourself. Cheer Up! Guys!

Valentine’s Week’s Day 4-10th February “Teddy Day”

Expectation:

You imagine a cuddly teddy bear waiting for you, ready to be your snuggle buddy and your emotional support. And you envision snuggling up with this soft companion, feeling cherished and protected.

Reality:

You find your partner using the teddy bear as a makeshift pillow while watching TV or your partner convinces you that you’re too old for stuffed animals. While the teddy bear may not serve its intended purpose, you appreciate the humor and practicality of the situation. Well! At least someone’s enjoying it.

Valentine’s Week’s Day 5 – 11th February “Promise Day”

Expectation:

You expect to have sweet promises of forever and always, sealed with a loving gaze or with promise ring. You are expecting these promises as a symbol of your commitment and dedication to each other.

Reality: 24

Your partner promises to do the dishes for a week if you make them breakfast in bed. Fair trade? Why not, it may not be the romantic promise you had in mind. But you appreciate the practicality and humor in your partner’s gesture.

Valentine’s Week Day 6 – 12th February “Hug Day”

Valentine’s Week-12th February “Hug Day”

Expectation:

You are expecting a warm, heartfelt hug that make you feel like you’re in a rom-com movie. You embrace this as a moment of connection and intimacy, strengthening your bond with your partner.

Reality:

You get a quick hug before your partner rushes off to catch the bus. It may not be the lingering embrace you had hoped for, you cherish the brief moment of closeness and affection.

Hey! Ladies, at least it’s a hug! Right?

Valentine’s Week Day 7 – 13th February “Kiss Day”

Expectation:

You are expecting passionate kisses that make your heart skip a beat like kisses from classic movie Casablanca. You imagine these kisses as expressions of love and desire, igniting sparks between you and your partner.

Reality:

You both forget its Kiss Day until bedtime and then it’s a race to see who can brush their teeth first. Again, it may not be the romantic moment you had envisioned, you laugh off the forgetfulness and enjoy a playful end to the day. Romantic! Right?

Special Note

To all the lovely ladies,

As Valentine’s Week approaches, remember that love comes in many forms, and it’s not just about grand gestures or extravagant gifts. Whether you’re celebrating with a partner, friends, or embracing self-love, cherish the little moments that make each day special. From a single rose to a heartfelt hug, it’s these simple acts of kindness and love that truly matter. Embrace the joy of the unexpected, laugh off the mishaps, and savor the sweetness of each day.

Happy Valentine’s Week!
